The only difference between the Suunto M1 and the Suunto M" (aesthetics aside) is the CHEST STRAP. The Suunto M1 comes with a comfortable "rubber fronted" heart rate belt, with self change battery hatch and elastic back strap (the Suunto M1 model is ANALOGUE, which means it WILL interface with most popular gym equipment).

The Suunto M2 comes with the Suunto DUAL COMFORT belt ~ this means you have a private secure link between your watch and the strap (it will not be interfered with by other HRM users) and it ALSO transmits in ANALOGUE signal for interface with Gym equipment....
