The Polar S625X heart rate monitor is a combined Heart Rate Monitor,
altimeter and speed / distance monitor. It offers the user the ability
to exercise either within a heart rate training zone or within a prescribed
pace window, i.e 5:30 to 6:15 min per mile pace. The Polar S625X HRM
stores exercise files for later analysis on the PC (or via on screen
recall)
HOWEVER .... we would also strongly recommend you review the new Polar Polar RS400 and Polar RS400SD, or even the new top of the range Polar RS800 and Polar RS800SD. Better PC software, more fitness tests and even running cadence and stride length on the RS800!!
The new Polar RS400 / Polar RS400SD and Polar RS800 / Polar RS800SD are now available. Both of the new Polar RS series come with the superior Polar PPSW version 5 for high level training analysis and development of your own personalised training programme. The Polar RS800 and Polar RS800SD also includes an altimeter and new DIGITALLY coded Wearlink W I N D chest belt. The Polar RS800 range has the ability to support beat to beat heart rate analysis and R-R intervals. They can also be paired with the Polar S3 stride POD to give accurate running SPEED, PACE, LEG CADENCE (strides per minute) and STRIDE LENGTH.

considering to add bike speed components to this Polar S625x,
then please consider the Polar
S725x Multisport package as pre-packed by Polar to save you

The Polar S625X
also utilises state of the art infrared technology with a separately
available Polar Infrared Interface for transferring the training data
to PC for further analysis by Polar Pro Trainer 5 software which
comes along with this product. The new Polar S625X software incorporates
altitude, run speed, bike speed (optional) and pedal cadence (optional)
The Polar S625X is a powerful model designed for the ultimate in sports
performance. Incredible storage accuracy and memory monitoring are unmatched
and long periods of exercise can be checked for future reference. It
is specifically intended for in-depth performance data and to compliment
the work of trainers.
The big difference between the S610i heart monitor and the Polar
S625X heart rate monitor is the foot pod / bike functionality and the
altimeter. Functionally there is very little difference between the
heart rate functions of the Polar S610i / Polar S710i and Polar S725.
The one additional extra, aside from the speed and distance functionality,
is the Polar Own Optimizer. The Polar Own Optimizer is a useful
"wellbeing" test that indicates current fatigue / fitness
level, whether optimal trained, under training or over trained.

Ltd comment : The Polar Own Optimizer is an overtaining / undertraining
test that will tell the user what the current level of fatigue / freshness
is. The test is simply performed sitting for 3 minutes, then standing
for 3 minutes. The results of the test will tell the user if they are
fatigued, and should take rest / low intensity recovery exercise, or
fresh and ready to race. The Own Optimizer provides a rating of fatigue
/ freshness between 1 - 9. To get the best results, it is suggested
the Polar Own Optimizer is used 2 to 3 times per week, to allow the
unit time to adapt to your personal characteristics.

The
Owners of this site have used these monitors and we cannot stress
enough how accurate they are. They are NOT pedometers. A pedometers
relies on the user setting a standard stride length in to the unit,
it then counts steps and multiplies that by the stride distance. This
is NOT how the Polar S625X works
The
Polar S625X units work with 3 dimensional inertia monitors / accelerometers,
the same thing used to position satellites accurately and also to
set off car air bags... don't worry how they work, they just do.
It is possible for you to "fine tune" these units to your
own biomechanical rhythm and gait, this is done by entering an offset.
We have found most people can expect 96-%97% accuracy out of the box,
and bit of fine tuning can give 98% + - full Polar
S1 technical details here
It
does not matter if your run includes changes of pace or stride pattern
or terrain, the Nike foot pod will recognise this and react accordingly.

Basic Functions of Polar S625X HRM (please do not copy)

The training zones can be manually controlled or automatically
controlled via the use of "Polar Exercise Sets". For
example, 10 mins in warm up ZONE 1
then 6 intervals in ZONE 2 all of 5
mins with a recovery down to 130 bpm, then 10
min cool down in ZONE 3. Note.
It is possible to train either within HR zones or speed/pace
zones across 1, 2 or all 3 segments. However, it is not possible
to train in combined HR and pace zones. For example, you cannot
do 10 mins warm up, Heart Rate Controllled, then 40 mins at
6 min/mile pace, then 10 mins cool down in HR zones.
