Why is there such
a difference in the price of our pedometers - step counters? Like everything else
we sell, we have used these units and know which is better than others
and why. All of the pedometers we sell are of a "high" quality
and all of the pedometers we sell provide reasonably accurate step counting
and distance travelled. However, the Omron HJ113, Silva Ex PED GO and Techtrail / New Balance VIA pedometers use a more sophisticated step recognition mechanism
(not just a swinging -tick -tick weight). The Omron HJ113, Silva Ex PED Go and Techtrail / New Balance VIA pedometers provide the highest accuracy from all the pedometers
we sell. that's why you have to pay more.... We hope we can help you in
purchsasing your new Pedometer.
A study carried out
on 973 different pedometers by the British Journal of Sports Medicine
showed that only 1/4 of them gave acceptable accuracy (10% error or less).
The other 3/4's generally overestimated, with some (very cheap) units
giving an error as high as 1000%.... their conclusion was that you can
assume a pedometer costing over £14 should be accurate. BHIP Ltd has rejected many pedometers we have been asked to sell as they are basically .. rubbish. All the step counters we sell will give a minimum of 95% accuracy when counting steps, we've tested them all. It is the user's responsibility to enter a good average stride length, this is essential if you want to see an accurate distance measurement, as opposed to just counting steps.
