BHIP Ltd - and heartratemonitor.co.uk has been selling (and using) Garmin GPS and heart rate monitors online since 2001. Garmin have been at the cutting edge of technology with the first integrated GPS and Heart Rate Monitor in to just ONE unit - the Garmin Forerunner 301 (now obsolete)
Garmin GPS heart rate monitors ... a short history ....
Garmin have three main product line
Garmin FR range (multisport) : This is for those who want a REGULAR wrist unit that does not need charging. The Garmin FR60 does NOT use GPS. It uses highly accurate accelerometer foot pods to give running speed, distance at pace to 98% without calibration (for most users). It uses the ANT+ platform for data transmission. The Garmin FR60 comes in various BUNDLES and includes heart rate, running foot pod and a Garmin GSC10 bike speed (rear wheel) and pedal cadence sensor. It is a GREAT product for the user who prefers a NON-GPS product with plenty of technical features to suit users from casual jogger to serious athlete. Best value with the new PREMIUM HR strap is FR60 Ltd Edition in blue and pink. NEW - Garmin FR70 model available now .....
Garmin Forerunner range (multisport) : This started in 2001 with the Forerunner 201 and 301 GPS watches. It has evolved in to the very lastest range - Garmin Forerunner 110 (entry level) and Garmin Forerunner 210 (with interval settings and 5 x HR zones) .... then comes the TRIATHLETES choice.. the Garmin Forerunner 310XT (swim proof with 20 hour battery life) or the Garmin Forerunner 910xt ... also available now is the Garmin Forerunner 410 (improved version of the 405 and 405CX - HR based calories and improved sensitivity TOUCH bezel - no longer a problem for wet sweaty hands). One of our best selling speed / distance only models is the Forerunner 205 (no heart rate) and Forerunner 405 and 405CX. These latter models have really been replaced by the newer 110, 210, 310XT and 410. And now we have the Garmin Forerunner 610 - beautiful to look at, great screen clarity, user friendly touch screen - and best of all - TRAINING EFFECT based on Firstbeat technologies (previously exclusive to Suunto T series)
Garmin Edge range (for cyclists) : This range started in 2004/5 with the Edge 205 and 305 (now obsolete). It was replaced with the Edge 605 (no heart rate) and Edge 705 (with heart rate) - these models broke the mould by adding genuine ROUTE MAPPING. The newest models in this range, added 2010 and adding more models in 2011, is the Garmin Edge 500 (no routing) and the Garmin Edge 800 with mapping and autorouting |

Virtual Racer allows you to race previous bests on a given course (including ones downloaded from Garmin Connect), while the Walk/Run alert system helps those using the popular Galloway method which focuses on finishing with a alternating walk/run technique.
Best feature of this new Garmin Forerunner 610 is TRAINING EFFECT - heart rate variability analysis to clearly show when over / under training previously ~ a feature exclusive to Suunto T series) |
|

A welcome addition to the Garmin Product range. Put simply, if you're a TRIATHLETE and you want Garmin - this is the one for you. This is the FIRST WATERPROOF Garmin Forerunner GPS unit, so you can wear it while swimming (but like all HRM's - no heart rate while under water). The other Forerunner GPS units are just SPLASH proof, but this one is fine for the SWIM section. Also, it has an operating battery life of 20 hours, double the normal Forerunner (great for IronMan and Ultra distance races)

owners comments about the Garmin Forerunners : They may be
quite large, but once on your wrist you hardly notice it.
What's great about these unit is their ease of use, value
for money and high level functionality..
Good
features, as with most of speed and distance watches, are,
pace alarm, current speed, current pace and run time. What
is pretty unique is the Garmin Forerunner's ability to show
you real time if you are ahead or behind pace using the VIRTUAL
PARTNER function !! VERY USEFUL.
Technology
is moving fast and Garmin are at the cutting edge. These units
are easy to use and highly accurate. We "highly recommend"
these units and we have personal experience using them. |
