If there has ever been one criticism that we at heartratemonitor.co.uk have levelled at the Garmin Forerunner 405, 305 and even the previous Forerunner 301 - that was the CALORIE algorithm used by these units. The calculation used to computate calorie burn was not based on exercising heart rate.... The NEW Garmin Forerunner 405CX has an improved method of calorie computation that is more accurate than previous models. There is also a second wrist strap option suitable for smaller wrsits and a fashionable blue colour.

Who's the Garmin Forerunner 405CX for? - in our opinion, and we've used them ALL - the Garmin Forerunner 405CX is for anyone who wants JUST ONE device to use when running, cycling, walking etc. It will give accurate heart rate data, speed, distance and calories burnt. The Garmin Forerunner 405CX will also download MAPPING / TRACKING data to either the supplied Garmin Training Centre software, or other third party packages that will accept the GPX data format - like Google Earth etc. For a little more information : COMPARE Suunto T6C versus Garmin Forerunner 405CX versus Polar RS800CX (Blog opinion - different site)

Is the GARMIN FORERUNNER 405cx MAC compatible.... ??
Garmin Forerunner 405cx uses two pieces of software
1) is the Garmin ANT AGENT - this is the software that communicates between the Garmin Forerunner 405cx and the USB PC stick. Basically, it takes the data out of the watch unit. This software is MAC compliant for Intel powered MAC's (not PowerPC MACs) Hopefully - this link will take you to the latest Garmin update page - click here
2) Is the software that displays the data extracted from the Forerunner 405cx by the ANT Agent mentioned above. Most people use Garmin Training Centre. This software is FULLY MAC compliant - Intel based and PowerPC.... so, in summary, if you have Intel powered MAC, you should be fine, if you have PowerPC MAC, you may have some problems....
