Garmin Forerunner 405 : Track Heart Rate
Garmin Forerunner 405 is available with or without a heart rate monitor (see the versions tab) to help you make the most out of your training. Versions with a digital heart rate monitor continuously track heart beats per minute. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.
Garmin Forerunner 405: Cross-Train
Take your training inside with the versatile Garmin Forerunner 405. Pair it with an optional foot pod to track your speed, distance and running cadence indoors when a GPS signal is unavailable. This new design clips onto your laces for easy removal and automatically turns on when you start moving. You can also add a speed/cadence bike sensor to track the speed and distance of your cycling workouts.
Lock Onto Satellite Signals
Garmin Forerunner 405 sports a unique design that gives the GPS antenna a better view of the sky, so it can get a stronger signal during your run. And its high-sensitivity GPS receiver provides improved tracking under trees and near tall buildings.
Forerunner 405: Accelerate your training.
Garmin Forerunner 405 : BHIP summary review
BHIP Ltd comment : We've taken some pics to help customers appreciate the size of the Garmin Forerunner 405
It is SMALLER than any other wrist mounted GPS watch - but it's NOT small.... On a slim wrist of less than 17cm circumference, you will have to live with an "overhang" between the LUGS and your wrist. The reason for this is that the sensitive GPS aerial is fitted inside the rigid lugs - it needs to be pretty big to get the high sensitivity that makes the Forerunner 405 so popular. The regular buckle and pin strap system means that it WILL fit even the smallest wrist, but you may have to live with the overhang. The Forerunner 305/205 design, unfortunately - in our view, fits a small wrist better than the 405 due to the "swinging" straps on the 305/205.
Functionality. There are really only a couple of user noticeable differences between the Forerunner 305 and the Forerunner 405. The obvious one is the shape/design. Yes, the 405 does look better in the photos, but you do need a reasonably sized wrist to wear it. Secondly is the PC transfer. The Garmin Forerunner 305 used a USB PC cradle and cable, which worked well... the Garmin Forerunner 405 uses a wireless USB "bluetooth style" adaptor.. also works well. Both download to the same TRAINING CENTRE software. The 405 has a SMALLER screen the 305.
In our opinion... for many people.. the Garmin Forerunner 305 is still a very sensible choice and you should seriously consider the difference before spending an extra £100 on the Garmin Forerunner 405 (or there abouts...)
