Garmin Forerunner 405 : Track Heart Rate
Garmin Forerunner 405 is available with or without a heart rate monitor (see the versions tab) to help you make the most out of your training. Versions with a digital heart rate monitor continuously track heart beats per minute. Train in a certain heart rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance on the same run.

Garmin Forerunner 405 uses two pieces of software
1) is the Garmin ANT AGENT - this is the software that communicates between the Garmin Forerunner 405 and the USB PC stick. Basically, it takes the data out of the watch unit. This software is MAC compliant for Intel powered MAC's (not PowerPC MACs) Hopefully - this link will take you to the latest Garmin update page - click here
2) Is the software that displays the data extracted from the Forerunner 405 by the ANT Agent mentioned above. Most people use Garmin Training Centre. This software is FULLY MAC compliant - Intel based and PowerPC.... so, in summary, if you have Intel powered MAC, you should be fine, if you have PowerPC MAC, you may have some problems....
Garmin Forerunner 405 : BHIP summary review
BHIP Ltd comment : We've taken some pics to help customers appreciate the size of the Garmin Forerunner 405
It is SMALLER than any other wrist mounted GPS watch - but it's NOT small.... On a slim wrist of less than 17cm circumference, you will have to live with an "overhang" between the LUGS and your wrist. The reason for this is that the sensitive GPS aerial is fitted inside the rigid lugs - it needs to be pretty big to get the high sensitivity that makes the Forerunner 405 so popular. The regular buckle and pin strap system means that it WILL fit even the smallest wrist, but you may have to live with the overhang (we also recommend wearing the 405 on top of a SWEATBAND, to add extra wrist width and enhance comfort for those with small wrists). The Forerunner 305/205 design, unfortunately - in our view, fits a small wrist better than the 405 due to the "swinging" straps on the 305/205.
Functionality. There are really only a couple of user noticeable differences between the Forerunner 305 and the Forerunner 405. The obvious one is the shape/design. Yes, the 405 does look better in the photos, but you do need a reasonably sized wrist to wear it. Secondly is the PC transfer. The Garmin Forerunner 305 used a USB PC cradle and cable, which worked well... the Garmin Forerunner 405 uses a wireless USB "bluetooth style" adaptor.. also works well. Both download to the same TRAINING CENTRE software - but the 405 has to go VIA a clever bit of software called "ANT AGENT"... The 405 has a SMALLER screen the 305.
