The CICLOControl HAC4 is an advanced sports information system (heart rate monitor for cyclists), produced by CICLOSPORT, which provides a wide range of sports information to runners, cyclists, duathletes, triathletes, walkers, hikers, hillwalkers, fell runners, orienteers, skaters, climbers, skiers, snowboarders or indeed anyone interested in keeping fit or who wishes to record data for future reference. The HAC4 is invaluable to those wishing to record and analyse their training and competition performances or who participate in adventure holidays as 64 hours of data can be stored and recalled later using the PC Interface and software (HACTRONIC). The HAC4 is waterproof and can be used safely in water (up to 6ft deep) or in the shower. It is available in 2 colours, CLASSIC, or TITANIUM / SILVER. All HAC4s are made from durable plastic with Velcro fastening straps which allow the HAC4 to be worn as a watch during the day and during running, skiing or gym work etc and removed for cycling when the HAC4 is clipped into a handlebar mount. Triathletes and duathletes can quickly remove the HAC4 and attach it to the velcro wrist strap at the run/bike or bike/run transitions.

The HAC4 has a total of 57 functions and provides sportsmen and sportswomen with vital information to add to their sporting experiences. Once initial data, such as the total weight of bike and rider, tyre circumference, date/time/month, heart rate training zones, interval training times and starting altitude is entered and stored, the HAC4 is ready to use.

Our comment: the HAC4 is not coded, and it does not offer the same level of interval training options that the S510 and S710i do. HOWEVER, it does offer fantastic value for money with some excellent, and original features. One of the most well received functions of the HAC4 is the time trial comparison. It is possible to set a ride as a "master ride" which can be used to pace you the next time you do the same route / course. The HAC4 will give altitude and temperature without the need to have the stopwatch running, so it is useful for orienteers and moutaineers as well as the intended cyclists. With regard to coded / uncoded HRM's. If you ride / train literally 1m - 1.5m away from another HRM user, you may have problems, if not, you will not suffer crosstalk.

The Polar S720i heart rate monitor for cyclists - triathletes comes fully loaded with advanced memory features and infrared data transfer to PC where the training can be analysed more detailed by Polar Precision Performance 4.0 SW. It is also compatible with separate interfaces. The Polar S720i heart monitor includes a speed sensor, a bike mount, a built-in altimeter and thermometer as well as the option to use both Polar Cadence and Polar Power Output sensors.

Basically, the S720i heart rate monitor has exactly the same functionality as the S520 heart rate monitor with the addition of a sensibly sized memory. You can comfortably record 44 hours of data at 30 second sample rate, over any number of files, i.e. 10 rides of 4 hours (plus a little bit spare)

The Polar S720i heart rate monitor is the same functionaility as the old Polar S710i in a more attractive and robust steel case. The Polar S710i was obsoleted in March 2004. It has now been replaced by the Steel cased Polar S720i.

POLAR POWER OUTPUT SENSOR

The Polar Power Output Sensor from Polar is one of the most accurate measures of cycling power available on the market. It measures power directly from the chain. It uses chain tension, bike speed, pedal cadence, and chain speed to calculate the overall power figure. This unit is WIRED and it requires the cabling of a wire from bottom bracket to handlebar mount.

The speed sensor is part of the Power bar. Speed is taken off the BACK wheel speed magnet, this is ideal for Turbo Trainers and similar as well as standard bikes. The cadence sensor is also part of the Power bar. A magnet is fitted to the crank to give pedal RPM.
